Washington State's drunk driving penalties are tough.

Washington State DUI laws are tough and its mandatory penalties can be unforgiving, even if this is your first offense.  The simple truth is that if you are convicted of DUI in Olympia, Washington or anywhere else in Thurston County for that matter, you face several mandatory sentencing requirements.  The following mandatory penalties must be imposed by the sentencing judge.

If you are convicted of an Olympia DUI or a Thurston County drunk driving charge, the judge will do the following:

• Send you to jail;
  
• Suspend your driving privileges for a minimum of 90 days;
• Order you to obtain an alcohol evaluation and following all treatment recommendations;
  
• Impose steep fines, costs, assessments, and probation monitoring costs;
  
• Require installation of an ignition interlock device for a minimum of one year;
• Require Attendance at a Victim Impact Panel;
• Put you on probation for five years.
  

Your insurance rates will also probably increase dramatically.
